This is very clever advertising- cellphones.org will probably derive a huge increase in web from this contest, maybe even moreso than if they had spent $1000 on direct advertising.

I'll give it a shot too, but does anyone have any idea what the criteria is? Is it best overall blog, best post, etc...

I agree it's great advertising. Kind of like Ramit Sethi's scholarship a few weeks back.

Clearly an SEO ploy, and not really that clever. In fact it is completely obvious. Expect to see many more "blogger scholarships" in the future, especially if this works well.

JohnWesley sir, is there content at Tipd that *isn't* an SEO ploy? Think about things a bit more broadly. You could make the argument that every piece of content on the Internet, other than pure social interaction, is built for making money. Is this a bad thing? I don't think so. Lots of great content gets built and lots of great things happen online because people stand to profit. So please, get off the idealistic soapbox.
