Is there anyone who hasn't gone into debt for a pretty dumb reason at one point (it's OK to wait a decade before admitting it out loud)?

How about direct deposit advances or payday loans... the fees on those are scary-high.

Seems like some of these are intentionally included to fuel debate :) Getting into debt in any way is probaby dumb, but sometimes you just can't avoid it. Until personal finance management is taught to people at a young age (say as part of high school graduation requireements), I think a large percentage of the adult population will manage to accumulate some debt that should otherwise be avoided.

The only time I ever went into debt was to buy a stereo in my university days. I guess that's a dumb reason! But I borrowed the money from a friend and repaid him (at 0% interest) when my new grant check came through three weeks later. :)

I hate debt!
