This is a great piece. They are all true, but so many people fall prey to number one; basically trying to "keep up with the Joneses" There will always be someone who makes more than you do, you need to try and maximize your income for the time you spend earning, sure, but be aware that constantly comparing your income to what your friends, family, and associates make is a recipe for inadequacy.

We fall prey to number one because that's how media makes us feel. We're not "good enough" if we don't have this and don't have that. And the fact that even friends sometimes feel the need to show off and make us feel bad aggravates the problem.

If your friends feel the need to show off then they are not comfortable with themselves and I would avoid them. I don't need friends who just use me to make themselves feel better. Just MO :)

I think this illustrates the idea that happiness (as well as wealth) is entirely relative. There is no such thing as being wealthy in absolute terms; only more/less wealthy RELATIVE to the past or to other people. This explains why even aging billi0naires continue to seek to augment their wealth.
