I would suggest trying last minute cruises. They often slash prices if they have availability the last few days before they sail. After all, it costs them just as much to sail regardless of if someone is in the room or not. Their costs are fixed by that point.

I really liked #49 - talk to the locals. I did that in Cozumel when trying to find a beach to spend the day at, and ended up at a gorgeous beach where I was waited on hand and foot by the restaraunt/barstaff. If I had listened to the tourism center, I would've paid $60 to go to a man-made, fenced in hotel beach that was secluded from the rest of the area.

I've always found that purchasing the entertainment book for the area you are visiting will save you lots of money. When my husband and I went to HI for our honeymoon we saved a couple thousand $$ by using that book.

I would also mention sidestep - priceline is good, but sidestep searches all the travel sites for you.

That's funny. My wife and I did the same thing when we went to HI to get married 10 years ago. She got the book on the advice of her sister, who got one as well. We ended up getting a 10th floor hotel room across the street from the beach for $45/ night. We got some great other savings as well. I bet we saved a couple of thousand as well.

Yeah - it is an amazing tip! We went to the big island for 7 nights, Oahu for 2 nights, and Kauai for 5 nights and we ended up spending right under $2K including air (from the midwest), food, hotels, car, everything! We were gifted 7 nights at a 5 star hotel (Big Island) though. We stayed at a Radisson on Oahu for $45 a night and we stayed at a cute little hotel on Kauai for $42 a night - on a private beach and everything (they were remodeling part of the hotel though which is why the price was super low).

Very helpful list. My fiancee and I are gearing up to starting working and traveling in the next 2-3 years, and I'm always looking for helpful ways to save.
