How different are your spending habits when you are on vacation vs when you are at home?

Upon returning from vacaction, my spending habits do improve, for two reasons. One, i have less money. Two, i'm generally happier and feel less of a need to spend money on things to make me happy.

I don't switch to frugal mode...I just don't go on vacation and maintain my current frugal mode.

This is interesting, perhaps some neuro-economists would have some thoughts. I remember reading that we often offset frugality with thriftlessness (rather than the other way around), since our net stock of willpower is apparently fixed. Personally, I try to maintain a pretty consistent approach to managing my finances, and Id like to think that my spending habits dont change much from month to month, regardless of whether I just treated myself to something expensive, such as a vacation.

I do try to be more thrifty after vacations, but I think it's from guilt rather than financial need.

I normally try to plan and save accordingly for vacations, so I can have a good time on the road without having to worry about what I'm spending. Once I'm at my destination, I try to have as much fun as possible, because I never know when I'll be back there.

Not being a person who's taken many vacations, it's hard to say, but in the past, it'd really depend on how much money I have saved up. Now, I think very long-term, so yeah: frugal mode after a vacation.
