Waiters and waitresses are paid well below minimum wage because of what they are expected to make in terms of tips. To that end, I think using techniques to attempt to get bigger tips is not outrageous at all.

I don't find it bad that waiters/waitresses do a little extra to get my attention or make my dining pleasurable. However, they need to also understand the mood and intentions of the diners. Sometimes I want to have a good conversation with those I'm with, and if the waiter is pushing his own conversation a bit hard, it's distracting. But if I just went out for dinner to get out of the house and let someone else cook, then conversation with the waiter isn't a bad thing. He/she just needs to catch the hints and clues offered by the diners before he even reaches the table.

Making an effort for the bigger pay is great for patrons. I've had instances where the service was terrible though, waiting 20 minutes to get menus and drinks. If I tipped a low rate because of bad service the waitress would get pissed off, and that's what makes me mad about the service industry. They expect that extra dough regardless of their attitudes.

cleverdude: don't think its a big deal if he submits his own article. I think sometimes people pay too much emphasis that articles submitted to social news/network places has to be 'organic' and instead of by the blogger/author in question. personally, as long as they're not spamming and the content is worthwhile to share, no biggie?

granted stuff do go the extra mile when its 'discovered' or submitted by a top user. anyway just musing, FAQ says its cool too, so yeah.
